Drama Scientists unveil "Shitstorm Intensity Scale" by

After months of slacking off and drinking hard work and data collecting, Horse-News is pleased to present, for the first time, a quantifiable scale of shitstorm intensity for the My Little Pony fandom. We have dubbed it "The Twilicorn Scale".

Quantifying rage is difficult.
Until 2013, the fandom was largely ignorant to just how intense pony-related shitstorms could get. With the Advent of Equestria Girls, Las Pegasus Unicon, and Twilight becoming an Alicorn, it became clear that a quantifiable scale of drama intensity is needed.

After 9 months of research, HN has developed the "Twilicorn Unit".

The Twilicorn Unit is similar to Hurricane Categories, whereas the higher the number, the greater the intensity of the Shitstorm. The numbers are determined as being the numerator of a fraction of a Twilicorn shitstorm.

Weekly minor drama, such as "Pinkie Pie not acting right" in an episode, or drama that is experienced only on one major site (like /mlp/ disliking something) gets a Twilicorn Unit (referred to from here on out as a TU) of 1, making it 1/4th the intensity of a Twilicorn Shitstorm. a 1 TU rating is isolated and does not have lasting effects.

Notably larger drama, such as convention drama, which affects more people (but not up to staff level), and is still relatively isolated to a few sites carries a rating of 2 TU. This would include cons failing or food-related incidents at gatherings that result in further drama. The Scruffening / Faust Visit for instance, only carries a 2TU rating, for while it was deeply affected /mlp/, it's effect was limited to only 2-3 sites.

a 3 TU rating is reserved for drama that approaches maximum levels, spread across numerous sites, that affects the majority of the fandom or has a pronounced impact on the show itself. At 75% of a Twilicorn Shitstorm, 3TUs is the equivalent of a Derpygate, the first Equestria Girls Announcement, or staff associated with the show butting heads with fans in a considerable way.

Twilicorn itself is set at a 4, making it the most intense shitstorm on record - 100% full-blown fandom-wide devastation. The drama spread across all sites, was experienced by a majority of the fandom, and has lasting effects, effects the show in a profound way, and also has the potential to create other intense shitstorms. Only shitstorms of this intensity can carry a 4 TU rating.

A Twilicorn Rating of above a 4 IS possible, but is unlikely except for one instance.
A TU of 5 or above would be reserved for fandom-ending circumstances, such as show cancellation, mass-site deletions, or deaths.

We have compiled a small listing of Drama by TU's

Twilicorn:
Derpigate: 3
Ted Anderson Fired: 3
Equestria Girls 1: 3
LPU: 2
Bronycon '13 Incident: 2
Down With Molestia: 2
Scruffening: 2
Faust Visit: 2
Draft loses badge: 2
Gianna DeCarlo: 2
Blackmail Brony Network: 2
Sydneigh '14: 2
HN Mayo: 2
MMDW: 1
Equestria Girls 2: 1

From here on out, Drama reports will carry a Twilicorn Unit forecast based on these standards.

  2. I think a .5 unit might be useful. For example, Unicon was definitely a 2.5 at least, it was on a MUCH larger scale than the Sydneigh cancellation.

    1. Agreed. Unicon imploding should be more than a 2 because it actually DID affect show staff, in that it caused Tara Strong to go apeshit and cancel all her con appearances for the rest of 2013 (except SDCC but fuck that noise) and most cons this year. It also caused John de Lancie to start REALLY hating us instead of just mildly hating us.

Derpygate should be a 4. I was here for both it and Twilicorn, and Derpygate actually had a more lasting impact on the fandom itself. Most of us eventually got used to the Purple Mare-y Sue having wings and being a Princess that doesn't do anything, whether we agreed with it or not (I didn't, I still don't; I would have saved her ascension to the last episode... though I still think they thought MMC would be the last episode). Derpygate was the first battle in the ever nastier war between us and the SJW's. Twice now official staff have had to get involved because of SJW's flipping their shit.

No one's really that bitter about Twilicorn anymore. Everyone's still bitter about Derpygate.

  3. Just as I thought, the recent thing with the comics was the only real drama that happened this hiatus.

    1. It is, really.
Gianna and Draft fucking up should be more of a 1 as their crap didn't get around the whole fandom as much.

    2. Same. Such a piece of shit, that episode.

  5. Ted Anderson's firing should be a 2.5 TU. It hasn't spread to most other sites and being a comic writer is a smaller position than the show staff.

    2. /co/ and /v/? SA? Why would it be there, also [citation needed]?

    3. I haven't seen Reddit, /co/, /v/, or Something Awful talking about it yet. Link?

    4. All those sites the above anon mentioned, plus major comic news sites are just waiting for official confirmation from IDW (since all we have now are email screencaps which can be faked without too much trouble) before they report on this.

This could easily become a 3.5 or worse if it turns out to be true and the mainstream nerd media begins reporting it.

    5. Still, even though it's mentioned in many places, how many of their users care? Mostly the ones who are into the comics, since it doesn't affect the show in any way. So yeah, I think it's between 2 and 3 TU. It's deep drama for those who care, but it's centered around the comics.

      What
      Why

And there isn't nearly as many people bitching about Ted and/or bronies on tumblr as there were when DWM was going on.

    7. If you were on Tumblr when DWM went down, it was mental.

  9. Which idiot considers the scruffening a 2?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The Scruffening only gets a 2 because it only affects ONE website

      Delete
    2. I'd make it a 1. It only affected /mlp/, and only a small portion of /mlp/ at that. Most threads were unaffected.

  10. What about Dashcon?

    1. Dashcon wasn't pony drama, it was Tumblr drama. 0.

  11. I would give the Fighting is Magic C&D a 3.
Does the introduction of contentID also deserve a 3?

  12. I was under the impression that Derpygate was a bigger a thing than Twilicorn.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yeah, Derpygate was definitely a 4.

      Delete
  13. Ted Anderson and DWM should be flipped, especially since I would put the Teddining on a level comparable with Faust going to /mlp/. There was more heat with DWM than Ted, and it lasted longer as no one is talking about him nearly as much when compared to how many fires were stoked over DWM.

Though similarly, both involved SJWs, TRS and tumblr.

Also, EQG should be a 4. Both instances (that and Twilicorn) had /mlp/ being absolutely flooded with posts flying off of page zero. THAT's something that should be taken into consideration.

    1. Also, where's the false child harassment claim from BABScon?

      Delete
    2. Anon 1's right. There is no fucking way that Twilicorn was larger drama than EG1.

      Delete
  14. I'd say that "false child harassment claim" was a 1.5

    ReplyDelete
  15. Derpygate should be a 4, not a 3. People are STILL bitter about it 30+ months later
Ted Anderson should be a 2 for now, then a 3 if IDW confirms it
LPU should be 2.5 or 3 because it make Tara Strong and John De Lancie give up on the fandom for good
The Scruffening should be a 1 because I have no idea what the fuck that is
Bronycon '13 incident should also be a 1 because it really didn't have a long-term impact on anything

    3. Tara Strong was at BABSCon 2014. It's amazing that Tara Strong and John de Lancie are willing to attend BABSCon, but haven't been to BronyCon in years.
